Amber Heard Sued by London Fields Producers for $10M

After making headlines for her divorce proceedings from actor Johnny Depp earlier this year, Amber Heard is in the news once again as the subject of a new lawsuit. Producer Christopher Hanley’s production company Nicola Six Production is suing Amber Heard for a whopping $10 million, claiming the actress has refused to comply with her contractual obligations for the indie film London Fields. This lawsuit isn’t the first time this film has been embroiled in legal drama.

Last year, just one day after Lionsgate/Grindstone picked up the distribution rights for London Fields, director Matthew Cullen sued producers Christopher Hanley and Jordan Gertner, claiming they never paid him and “hijacked” the film from him. Deadline obtained the 24-page complaint, filed today in Los Angeles Superior Court, which alleges that the actress “conspired” with other actors to make unauthorized changes to the script, while aiding in director Matthew Cullen from violating his own contractual agreements. Here’s an excerpt from the new lawsuit below.

“Heard had previously also, in concert with other actors in the Picture, engaged in the following improper conduct: failing to render acting services in conformance with the shooting script; conspiring with Cullen to make unauthorized, material changes to the shooting script; aiding Cullen and conspiring with him to violate his contractual agreements with Plaintiff; and failing to render ADR services in accordance with her contractual obligations and conspiring with others to do the same. Additionally, Heard participated in a concerted campaign of disinformation against Plaintiff and the Picture, which has significantly damaged both. As a result of Heard’s tortious misconduct and breaches, the Picture remains in limbo-its sale, distribution, and release have been thwarted, and the investments of Plaintiff and the Picture’s other investors have been severely, if not irreparably, harmed.”

There have also been reports that this movie may have played a role in the divorce between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp, since her ex-husband has a small role in the film, and this lawsuit alludes to the film’s role in their divorce. The lawsuit also contends that the actress “falsely claimed” that she did not agree to the use of nudity in the film. Here’s another excerpt from the lawsuit below.

“In an effort to intimidate Nicola Six, Heard falsely claimed to Nicola Six that she had not contractually agreed to allow the use of nudity in the Picture. Heard also falsely claimed that she had not granted Nicola Six the right to the results and proceeds of her acting services in the Picture. As a result of Heard’s refusal to comply with her contractual obligations – including her improper refusal to act in provocative scenes contained in the pre-approved script – key scenes in the script had to be removed and/or rewritten to accommodate Heard’s behavior.”

London Fields also stars Theo James, Jaimie Alexander, Jim Sturgess, Cara Delevingne, Billy Bob Thornton, Jason Isaacs and Lily Cole. Matthew Cullen made his directorial debut on London Fields, which was adapted from Martin Amis’ critically-acclaimed 1989 novel, with Roberta Hanely providing the adapted screenplay. The story follows Amber Heard as Nicola Six, a clairvoyant femme fatale who has been living with a dark premonition of her impending death by murder. She begins a tangled love affair with three uniquely different men: one of whom she knows will be her murderer.
