Cyclops Unleashes His Powers in X-Men: Apocalypse Clip

Last week, it was announced that 20th Century Fox will be hosting a global screening of X-Men: Apocalypse, which took place earlier today in London. During the red carpet coverage of the event, a new clip was shown, which has Scott Summers, a.k.a. Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), first discovering his unique powers in an unlikely place. While we don’t know for sure if we’ll see the origins of other mutants’ abilities in this movie, this clip reveals how one bully was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The clip, which debuted on the X-Men Movies UK Facebook page, opens with a high school teacher giving a presentation on mutant history, revealing how humans first learned about mutants during the Paris Peace Accords in 1973. While the teacher shows slides of Magneto’s (Michael Fassbender) attack on the White House, one of her students, Scott Summers, starts having a problem with his eyes. When a bully thinks Scott is winking at his girl, Scott asks to be excused to go to the bathroom. This bully follows him into the bathroom, pounding on the stall door, when a powerful blast is emitted from Scott’s eyes, destroying the bathroom and knocking the bully into the sinks.

We don’t know for sure when exactly this scene takes place in X-Men: Apocalypse, but it appears to be quite early on, before Cyclops teams up with Professor X (James McAvoy and Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence). They will eventually unite to stop the villainous Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac), the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, who has amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign.

As the fate of Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence), with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy), must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction. Reprising their roles from X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past are Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Rose Byrne (Moira McTaggert), Evan Peters (Quicksilver). New cast members include Oscar Isaac as the villainous Apocalypse, Olivia Munn as Psylocke, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops and Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler. The movie will also mark the long awaited return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine!

Bryan Singer is directing X-Men: Apocalypse from a script by Simon Kinberg, based on a story the director and screenwriter crafted together with X2: X-Men: United writers Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty. Earlier today, producer Simon Kinberg confirmed that the next X-Men movie will be set in the 1990s, which makes sense since the prequel trilogy movies have been set exactly one decade apart. X-Men: First Class took place in the early 1960s, with X-Men: Day so Future Past set in 1973 and X-Men: Apocalypse set in 1983. While we wait for more on X-Men: Apocalypse, check out this new clip below to see how Cyclops first discovered his mutant powers.
