Celebrities are just like us: Kelly Rowland waxed nostalgic about Destiny’s Child while opening up about her new BET reality series, “Chasing Destiny,” on Saturday at SXSW. The 10-episode series, which premieres April 5, will follow Rowland as she reflects on her career in Destiny’s Child while searching for the next major girl group.
“There’s been so many artists—and there’s nothing wrong with it—who want to be solo,” Rowland told Stephen Hill, BET’s president of programming.
She went on to talk about the importance of girl power that’s inherent in female groups.
“But I think it’s time for another generation to see women coming together,” she said. “I think it’s time for another generation to see camaraderie. I think it’s time for another generation to hear voices together. To hear the power of it, how exciting it is. How it’s a force on stage. That is something that is missed. Hell, I miss it.”
We hear you, Kelly. And what does Rowland think is the recipe for a successful girl group to slay all day?
“Confidence,” she said. “They better be able to sing their butts off—and these girls can sing their faces off. And work ethic. I think the difference between Destiny’s Child and anyone else, we just outworked everybody.”
Can we get another Destiny’s Child reunion, stat?
