Three years after first being put into development, LD Entertainment’s Jacob’s Ladder is finally moving in the right direction. Deadline reports that Michael Ealy has signed on to star, reuniting with The Perfect Guy director David M. Rosenthal. Principal photography is now set to begin in mid-May, although no release date has been given at this time.
The original Jacob’s Ladder starred Tim Robbins as a Vietnam veteran who suffers from bizarre hallucinations while trying to uncover clues about his checkered past. The original movie also starred Elizabeth Peña, Danny Aiello, Matt Craven, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Jason Alexander, Patricia Kalember, Eriq La Salle and Ving Rhames, with Adrian Lyne directing. This remake will be a modern-day take on the story, focusing on two brothers.
The Jacob’s Ladder remake was first announced in June 2013, with Jeff Buhler (Midnight Meat Train) coming aboard to write the script, based on a pitch by Jake Wade Wall (The Other Sister). James Foley signed on to direct back in November 2013, but we haven’t heard any updates on the project until today. James Foley is currently in production on the Fifty Shades of Grey sequel Fifty Shades Darker.
The latest version of the script was co-written by Jeff Buhler and Sarah Thorp (The Bounty Hunter), with LD Entertainment’s Mickey Liddell, Pete Shilaimon and Jennifer Monroe set to produce. Alison R. Rosenzweig and Michael J. Gaeta are also producing through Gaeta/Rosenzweig Films, alongside Will Packer. Michael Ealy has previously worked with Will Packer on Think Like a Man, Think Like a Man Too and About Last Night.
Michael Ealy most recently starred in The Perfect Guy, and he will next be seen on the small screen in Season 2 of ABC’s Secrets & Lies. He also recently starred in the Fox shows The Following and Almost Human. What do you think about Michael Ealy taking the lead for Jacob’s Ladder?
