New Ghostbusters Is Funnier & Scarier Than Original Says Aykroyd

This should go over like a wheelbarrow full of lead-laced bricks. But shortly after original Ghostbusters star Ernie Hudson tweeted then deleted some disparaging remarks about this summer’s remake, co-creator of the franchise Dan Aykroyd stepped into shower praise on director Paul Feig’s hugely criticized summer blockbuster. Some are claiming that Sony is holding a gun to Danny’s head, demeaning that he speak highly of the movie on social media. Other’s are now slamming Aykroyd for his personal thoughts, just because they don’t mesh with the very loud critics coming out against the movie. We still have a month and a half left before we get to judge for ourselves.

The first Ghostbusters reboot trailer rests in the history books as the most hated trailer ever released on Youtube. Subsequent trailers have been called ‘better’ while also still getting slammed for not being funny enough. Dan Aykroyd, who had long hoped to star in a true sequel is relegated to a cameo here, playing a New York Cab Driver who ‘ain’t afraid of no ghosts’. He decided to jump on Facebook to reveal he’s seen the finished movie. And guess what, he likes it. He offers this bit of high praise.

“As originator of the original: Saw test screening of new movie. Apart from brilliant, genuine performances from the cast both female and male, it has more laughs and more scares than the first 2 films plus Bill Murray is in it! As one of millions of man-fans and Ray Stantz, I’m paying to see that and bringing all my friends!”

Though this appears on the man’s personal Facebook account, that hasn’t stopped angry fans from filling up the comment section with more disparaging remarks. Some go as far as to claim he’s ‘sh*tting’ on the legacy of the original movies. While others are calling him out as a shill for Sony Pictures. However this shakes out, many believe the Ghostbusters name is being tarnished and will never recover from this fiasco.

Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy headline the new Ghostbusters as scientists Erin Gilbert, a particle physicist, and Abby Yates, an expert in the paranormal. As ghost sightings begin to ramp up in New York City, the pair team with Kate McKinnon’s Jillian Holtzmann, a nuclear engineer responsible for creating all the cool new weapons. Leslie Jones’ Patty Tolan is a Subway toll collector who steps in to provide tips on dealing with the city. Chris Hemsworth takes over as the new secretary Kevin, with Andy Garcia starring as the Mayor of New York City.

Dan Aykroyd is joined by several of his original Ghostbusters team, including Sigourney Weaver, Ernie Hudson and Bill Murray. Rick Moranis declined to participate. While some believe he has retired from show business, the comedian claims that accusation is false. He just thought the movie was a bad idea and didn’t want to be associated with it. We’ll have to wait until July 15 to see how audiences react to Ghostbusters 2016. If it’s as good as Dan Aykroyd suggests, we should see some early reviews from critics soon enough. But if Sony refuses to screen it, we may all be in trouble.
