A few weeks ago, a rumored cast list leaked for Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, which revealed a number of intriguing details. The list seemingly confirmed an earlier rumor that actress Angourie Rice was playing Betty Brant, and that Bokeem Woodbine is playing The Shocker, a character which may have finally surfaced in new set photos. While we don’t know for sure if the character in these photos is The Shocker, the costume certainly seems to match up with The Shocker’s costume from the comics.
The Shocker, a.k.a. Herman Schultz, was created by Stan Lee and John Romita Sr. in 1967, first appearing in The Amazing Spider-Man #46 in March 1967. The character was a high school dropout but also a brilliant engineer, who used two gauntlets he invented that emit high-energy blasts to break out of prison, after he was caught for a string of burglaries. He is said to be the best safe-cracker in the world and became well known as a master thief. The set photos that debuted on Twitter give us a glimpse at the costume, but we don’t know anything else about the scene in question.
We also don’t know for sure if it is in fact Bokeem Woodbine in this costume, or if it is a stunt performer. The leaked cast list also revealed another interesting character, Kenneth Choi’s Principal Morita, who may be related to the actor’s other MCU character, the Howling Commando Jim Morita from 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger. It’s possible that, if Morita does learn about Peter Parker‘s secret identity as Spider-Man, the principal could have some interesting stories to tell about his grandpa’s battles alongside Cap.
The Spider-Man: Homecoming cast is lead by Tom Holland as Spider-Man and Marisa Tomei returning as Aunt May from Captain America: Civil War. The cast also includes Zendaya Coleman as the female lead Michelle, rumored to actually be Mary-Jane Watson, Laura Harrier as Liz Allan, Jacob Batalon playing Ned Leeds, Tony Revolori as Flash Thompson and Michael Keaton, rumored to be playing the villainous Vulture. The cast also includes a number of actors in unknown roles such as Donald Glover, Michael Barbieri, Abraham Attah, Logan Marshall-Green, Tyne Daly, Michael Mando, Garcelle Beauvais, J.J. Totah, Jorge Lendeborg Jr. and Isabella Amara.
As for Vulture, it was confirmed that he will be the villain thanks to new concept art that debuted at Comic-Con, but we still don’t know for sure if Michael Keaton is playing Vulture or not. Jon Watts is directing from a script by John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein, with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige producing alongside Amy Pascal. Take a look at the latest set photos as Spider-Man: Homecoming continues production in Atlanta.
