Spider-Man: Homecoming to Crossover Daredevil's Kingpin?

The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to grow, both on the cinematic and TV sides of things, but there has been little to no crossover between the two so far, save for Agent Coulson having appeared first in The Avengers and then headlining Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. However, a new rumor is suggesting that the TV universe will be crossing over with the movie universe for the first time. Apparently, Marvel is considering bringing Wilson Fisk, aka The Kingpin from the Netflix series Daredevil into the first Tom Holland led Peter Parker solo flick, Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Screen Geek claims that the information comes from a “source close to the situation” but didn’t have anything more specific to say about the rumor. The Netflix Marvel series have been very well received so far, but season one of Daredevil was regarded by fans and critics as one of the best things that Marvel Studios has produced so far and Vincent D’Onofrio‘s Kingpin is regarded as one of the best villains seen on screen for Marvel thus far, second to only Tom Hiddleston’s Loki. Though it is very unclear as to whether or not Kingpin would just have a small role in the film or be one of the main villains, it would absolutely make sense for him to show up in the Spider-Man reboot.

Fisk is largely a primary villain for Daredevil in the comics, but has also been a big villain for Spider-Man in the past, perhaps most notably in the 90s cartoon Spider-Man: The Animated Series. Kingpin was the main villain for Peter Parker during the duration of that series and until the Sam Raimi films, and for some perhaps even after those films, that series was one of the best representations of the character to date. However, Tom Holland‘s portrayal of Spidey in Captain America: Civil War has been universally praised and is largely considered to be the most faithful live action version of the character we have ever seen. All eyes are now on the solo film that is due out next year that will cement the character inside the MCU and Kingpin would be a very welcomed addition.

This rumor does seem to conflict with what we have heard up until this point though, as the MCU films have been very stingy about acknowledging anything from the shows, be it Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC or the Netflix series that have debuted so far. There have been persistent rumors that the TV side of Marvel and film side have been clashing behind the scenes and it might have even led to The Inhumans getting pulled from Marvel’s release schedule. Recently, S.H.I.E.L.D star Chloe Bennet was speaking at Wizard World in Des Moines and had some blunt and harsh words about how the films have handled the Marvel shows up to this point.

“I don’t know. People who make movies for Marvel, why don’t you acknowledge what happens on our show? Why don’t you guys go ask them that? Cause they don’t seem to care! The Marvel Cinematic Universe loves to pretend that everything is connected, but then they don’t acknowledge our show at all. So, I would love to do that, but they don’t seem to keen on that idea.”

As of right now Marvel has yet to announce who the main villain for Spider-Man: Homecoming will be, but there are a lot of rumors that it will be The Vulture and there were even rumors that Michael Keaton was flirting with the role. Either way, should these rumors turn out to be true it will be an absolute game changer for the crossover possibilities from both the movie and TV sides of the Marvel Universe. Would you like to see Kingpin appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming or would you rather see the movies and TV shows stay separate?
