'Star Wars': Watch John Boyega Board the Millennium Falcon for the First Time

In just a few short days, fans will be able to bring home the biggest movie in the galaxy, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which debuts on Digital HD formats April 1 before arriving on Blu-ray and DVD April 5. Over the past few days, we’ve seen a number of excerpts from the feature length documentary Secrets of the Force Awakens: A Cinematic Journey, which goes behind-the-scenes of this blockbuster. And today we have another clip from this documentary, courtesy of The Wall Street Journal. This scene focuses on John Boyega, who freaks out upon seeing the Millennium Falcon for the first time.

The young actor’s reaction to the Millennium Falcon isn’t too surprising, given how iconic the ship is in franchise lore. We also learned back in the summer of 2014 that just the sight of Han Solo’s ship was enough to bring filmmaker and longtime Star Wars fan Kevin Smith to tears during his visit to the set. This new video shows John Boyega running through the ship, while expressing his excitement to actually be able to work on a Star Wars movie.

Yesterday, we showed you another excerpt featuring Daisy Ridley‘s audition, so perhaps we’ll get to see more footage from this feature length documentary entitled Secrets of the Force Awakens: A Cinematic Journey soon. For the first time, discover the complete story behind the making of The Force Awakens, revealed through in-depth footage and exclusive interviews with the actors and filmmakers in this feature documentary. The film actually debuted at the SXSW Film Festival earlier this month before arriving on the bonus features of the Blu-ray and DVD.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens saw the eagerly anticipated reteaming of original Star Wars stars Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill, along with Anthony Daniels, the only actor to have been in all seven Star Wars films, and Peter Mayhew. The returning cast was joined by newcomer Daisy Ridley, who beat out fierce competition to take the principal role of Rey; BAFTA Rising Star Award winner John Boyega (Attack the Block, Imperial Dreams) as reluctant stormtrooper Finn; Emmy nominee Adam Driver (Lincoln, Girls) as the villainous Kylo Ren, and Golden Globe winner Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis, The Bourne Legacy) as Resistance pilot Poe Dameron.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens was directed by J.J. Abrams and written by Lawrence Kasdan & J.J. Abrams and Michael Arndt. Lucasfilm president and eight-time Academy Award nominee Kathleen Kennedy and J.J. Abrams, along with his longtime producing partner Bryan Burk, are the film’s producers. Having established a musical legacy with his iconic scores for the previous six films in the Star Wars Saga, acclaimed composer John Williams returned to score Star Wars: The Force Awakens, ultimately garnering his 50th Oscar nomination for it. Take a look at John Boyega excitedly exploring the Millennium Falcon in this excerpt from Secrets of the Force Awakens: A Cinematic Journey, and stay tuned for more on the Star Wars: The Force Awakens Digital HD, Blu-ray and DVD release.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens was released December 18th, 2015.
